Unscramble Maker
Decode mixed-up letters into every valid word
About Unscramble Maker
Hand over any pile of mixed-up letters and the Unscramble Maker reveals every real word hiding inside. Unlike a jumble solver that focuses on same-length answers, the unscrambler finds words of ALL lengths from your letter set, from tiny 2-letter combos to full-length rearrangements. It is the ultimate tool for Scrabble, Words With Friends, or any time you need to turn a chaotic handful of letters into playable words.

Unscrambling Strategies
- Start with 2-letter words: There are about 100 valid 2-letter English words — they are quick points in tile games
- Scan for prefixes: UN-, RE-, PRE-, DIS- are common starting patterns hiding in scrambled letters
- Check for -S plurals: If your letters include S, many results will be plural forms of shorter base words
- Try adding a blank: Using # as a wildcard dramatically increases results since it substitutes for any letter
- Sort by length for games: Longer words generally score higher in word games, so check the longest matches first
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between unscrambling and anagram solving?
Anagrams rearrange ALL letters into a single word of the same length (LISTEN becomes SILENT). Unscrambling finds every valid word of ANY length from your letters. Entering LISTEN into the unscrambler yields LISTEN, SILENT, TILES, LIST, NETS, TEN, and dozens more.
How many words can I find from 7 letters?
Typically 80 to 250 valid words depending on the letter combination. Common letters like E, A, T, R, S produce more results than uncommon ones like Q, Z, X. Our maker searches the complete dictionary for every valid combination.
Can I use wildcard letters?
Yes. Type # for a blank wildcard that can represent any letter. Wildcards score 0 points in word games but dramatically expand the number of possible words found.
Which word games does this work for?
The unscramble maker works for Scrabble, Words With Friends, Lexulous, Word Chums, Wordfeud, and any game where you build words from a set of letters. Change the scoring system in Search Options to match your game.
